For the last 25 years, the Pocono communities have come together in the late summer to celebrate the hardneck garlic harvest. This Labor Day weekend, brace your palate and bring your friends and family out to the Pocono Garlic and Harvest Festival!
When and Where
The festival will be held at the Shawnee Mountain Ski Area on Saturday August 31 and Sunday, September 1. It will begin at 10 a.m. that Saturday. You can get your tickets at the gate, or save by ordering them in advance
online. There will be a shuttle running from the nearby parking lot to the festival throughout the weekend. The Ski Area is located at 401 Hollow Road, East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania 18301. Farmers and Vendors
A host of the region’s farmers will bring the fruits of their labor to sell at the festival. In addition to mounds of garlic from various sources, you may find apple cider vinegar, dips, pesto, sea salts, herbs, syrups, and sweets. There will also be a wide range of arts and crafts vendors, and various booths will have jewelry, musical instruments like flutes and ocarinas, pottery, clothing, woodwork, and more.
Bring an Appetite
With its potent flavor, garlic can be used in all kinds of cooking, and the cooks present at the festival will demonstrate its versatility through their own delicious dishes. As you explore the food vendors, you may enjoy the offerings of Cow and the Curd of Philadelphia, Big E’s of Boyertown, and Taste of Poland of Great Meadows. Sycamore Grille will bring their crab cakes, and Master Asador will serve up Argentine cooking. Save room if you can, as there will be a host of other great vendors ready to please.
The Garlic Eating Contest
At 2 p.m. each day, the bold and daring will convene under the main tent to scarf down as much garlic as possible. Whoever devours the most garlic in one minute will be declared king or queen of the fest, and will also receive a bounty of prizes. The winner may take home ski passes for Shawnee Mountain, a commemorative shirt, and a trophy. The champ of Saturday’s competition may also win two passes to Sunday’s fest to defend their crown.
